Is My Vehicle At Archers?

If you are not sure if your car is being stored at Archers you may go to the OPG Los Angeles Vehicle Impound Information Center and enter the license number or VIN# of your car. This will give you the location of your car IF it was towed by an Official Police Garage which is under contract with the City of Los Angeles. Any cars towed by LAPD or Parking Enforcement (DOT) should appear in this database. Click here to check database. See your local agencies.

When Can I Pick Up My Vehicle?

In most cases* your vehicle is available for release, to remove unattached personal property, or to inspect between 7am and 7pm, 7 days a week. Please try to arrive by 6:30 pm to make sure there is time to release your vehicle by 7:00 pm.

*Your vehicle may be at our secondary location which closes at 4:00 pm. Call ahead if you are unsure and be early to make certain there is time to get your car out before closing.

What Do I Need To Pick Up My Vehicle?

You will need the following information to release your vehicle or to remove unattached personal property:
1) License Number of your car or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
2) Current Driver’s License and/or government photo ID
3) Proof of ownership (current vehicle registration, pink slip, or sales\rental agreement). If you are not the owner of the vehicle see Who May Pick Up My Vehicle.
4) We accept cash, Visa, Master card or debit card as payment for vehicle charges.
5) If the impounding agency has placed a HOLD on your vehicle, you must obtain a release from that agency before the vehicle can be picked up. See the next section for more details.

How Do I Get A Release From The Impounding Agency?

In order to find out if there is a HOLD on your vehicle, you may call Archers at (818) 982-1464.
If you care to get this information online then you must know why your car was impounded. Check for the following impound reasons either online at OPG Impound Information Center or on your paperwork sent from the police. This paperwork will have the impound reason displayed in the area highlighted as seen below.

If you find any of the following Vehicle Code sections you will need a release form. There are instances in which holds will be placed for other reasons other than those below, but this is not common. In such cases a phone call to Archers would verify if there is a hold by a police agency.
22651. I 5 or more unpaid parking citations
22651. J No proof of registration
22651. O Expired Registration
22651. P Driving without a valid license
22655 Evidence (several code sections under 22655 apply)
14602.6 Driving with a suspended or revoked license
If you determine that there is a hold on the vehicle then you will need to contact the police agency that initiated the tow to get a release form. Below is a link to law enforcement agencies that may have towed your vehicle.

Who May Pick Up My Vehicle?

A vehicle may be picked up by the owner or their agent. A family member may pick up the vehicle if they have the same last name and same address. Any other agent must be authorized by the owner. An authorization will include a notarized letter from the owner or a letter from the owner may be accompanied by an ENLARGED copy of the owner’s driver license.

What Are The Charges To Pick Up My Vehicle?

Click here for current rates. There are DMV required notification charges that do apply after the fifth day and will range from $35 to $100. Towing and storage charges may vary depending on the law enforcement agency that towed the vehicle. You may call if you would like a break down of the current charges, but be aware that the charges do change daily. For this reason we encourage you to pick up your car as soon as possible to keep your charges to a minimum. If you do not want your car please see the next section.
We accept cash, Visa, Master card or debit cards for payment of vehicle charges.

What If I Don't Want My Vehicle?

As a courtesy to customers who do not want to pick up their vehicles, within the first five days Archers will accept the amount of the tow fee and the title to the vehicle, in place of the balance of the charges. After the fifth day, the title to the vehicle will be accepted and the customer will pay half of the total charges due to Archers. It is imperative that customers turn in their title as soon as possible to keep their charges to a minimum. We remind you that vehicle owners are responsible for the full amount of the charges and this is a courtesy that we extend to them.

What If I Think My Vehicle Was Towed In Error?

If you believe there was not “probable cause” to tow your vehicle, you may request an Impound Hearing from the impounding agency either before or after you remove your vehicle from Archers. (It may be to your advantage to pick up your vehicle before the hearing because it is our experience that agencies will generally not cover extended storage if you could have picked up your vehicle to stop the additional charges). You must request a hearing by phone, in writing or in person from the agency that impounded your vehicle within 10 days of impound. We do have hearing forms available for LAPD North Hollywood and LA Parking Enforcement (DOT) below. For other agencies you will need to contact the agency to find out the hearing procedures.
